Brick & Mortar Calculator
Estimates the brick count from the wall area and the brick size including the mortar joint, then back-calculates the mortar volume and the cement and sand required. A half-brick wall is one brick width thick; a one-brick wall is one brick length thick.

CALCULATION
METHOD
Bricks per square metre
n = 1 / ((Lbrick + t) × (Hbrick + t)), where t is the mortar joint; wet mortar volume = wall volume − solid brick volume; the dry volume is multiplied by 1.33 and then split into cement and sand by the mix ratio.- A half-brick wall is taken as one brick width thick and a one-brick wall as one brick length thick, the convention used in Commonwealth and international practice.
- Brick sizes vary considerably by origin (China 240 × 115 × 53, international 215 × 102.5 × 65); always use the size actually supplied.
- The mix ratio and wastage allowance are empirical values; final quantities must be checked against the masonry method statement.
