Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 September 2026
This policy covers engmaker.com and its Chinese mirror under /zh/. We are a small independent project with no advertising network and no data broker. We collect the minimum needed to run a translation tool and a calculator site, and we tell you exactly what that is.
Who we are
EngTranslate is an independent engineering-tools project. We operate this website and the translation service behind it. For anything about this policy, write to us at the address at the bottom of this page.
What counts as personal data here
Information that identifies you, or that could be used to identify you together with other information. IP addresses and the contents of files you translate both fall into this category.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data, rent it out, or share it with advertising networks. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not run third-party tracking scripts on this site other than the privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics described below.
Site terms
Using this site or the translation service means you accept this policy. If you do not accept it, please do not upload documents.
What we collect, and why
The table lists every category of data we handle. Nothing is collected beyond this list.
| Category | What it is | Why we need it | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uploaded content | The documents, spreadsheets, presentations and text you submit for translation or parsing. | The translation cannot be produced without reading it. It is processed in memory. | Deleted from the working store within hours of the job finishing. |
| Translation results | The translated text produced for you, and any document you imported into your own library. | So you can read, copy and download your own work. | Kept in your library until you delete the document yourself. |
| Technical logs | IP address, timestamp, requested route, response status and error messages generated by our servers. | Security, abuse prevention and diagnosing faults. Not used for profiling. | Retained up to 30 days, then deleted. |
| Cookies and local storage | One cookie recording your consent choice, and a language preference in your browser local storage. | Remembering your choice so we do not ask again on every page. | Consent cookie up to 12 months. Language preference until you clear browser data. |
| Aggregated analytics | Page counts and referrer sources, with no cookies and no cross-site identifiers. | Understanding which pages are useful so we can prioritise work. | Retained in aggregate form indefinitely. |
How your content is processed
This matters more than anything else on this page, so we state it plainly.
Translation runs on third-party AI infrastructure
Text you submit is sent to a third-party large language model provider to produce the translation. That provider processes the text under its own infrastructure and terms. We instruct it to retain no content after the request completes. You should treat anything you submit as having left our servers, and check the provider terms yourself if that matters for your project.
Documents run through the same pipeline
A full document is split into segments, translated segment by segment, and reassembled. Segments are sent one batch at a time rather than as one block, but they all go to the same kind of provider. Consistency across the document comes from a shared glossary, not from any provider-side state.
You can remove your content yourself
Any document in your library can be deleted from the interface. Deleting removes it from our database. Cached copies clear within hours. We cannot recover a document after you delete it.
Where your data is processed
Our servers run in Singapore and our content delivery network is served by Cloudflare, which may process requests at edge locations worldwide under its own network and data-processing terms.
Transfers outside your region
Translation providers operate globally, so text can leave your country as part of an ordinary translation request. There is no way to complete a machine translation without that transfer. Treat uploaded documents as leaving your region.
Your rights depend on where you are
If you are in the EU or the UK, the GDPR and the UK GDPR apply to you. Elsewhere, local privacy law applies. In either case, you hold the following rights:
- Access — get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Erasure — have your data deleted. You can do this yourself for documents and libraries; for the rest, ask us.
- Objection and restriction — object to processing based on legitimate interest, or ask us to pause it.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Complaint — escalate to your local supervisory authority.
How we keep your data safe
Traffic is encrypted in transit over HTTPS. Access to the database is restricted to the people who operate the service, and credentials are held in environment secrets rather than in source code. We rotate credentials and patch dependencies as part of normal maintenance. No system is perfect; if a breach affects your data we will tell you and the relevant authority.
Children
This service is built for working engineers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes materially, we update the date at the top of this page and, for changes affecting your rights, note it on the homepage. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised policy.
